Luftduphs

This wiki page is a work in progress. Luftduphs were created by bannhestrids.
They are free to use, you may create your own for any purpose. Credit is appreciated.

A Luftduph (Lightweight Utility Frame Testbed with Duphilion) is an anthropomorphic robot, designed for exceptional agility. They have a smooth, aerodynamic body, made with silicone skin, carbon fiber composite plating, and synthetic fur.

Anatomy

Luftduphs are built with a frame made of Duphilion, a composite material reinforced by carbon fibers, which offers great durability and staggeringly low weight. The frame holds nine electric motors to drive the Luftduph's movement.Five electric fans are used for generating thrust in various directions, and two additional fans on the cheeks discharge heat via the ears.Twin compressors in the thighs are used to supply the Luftduph’s pneumatic joints with constant pressure for regular movement, and can alternatively be used to pressurize two compressed air storage tanks. Stored compressed air can be released at any time to rapidly accelerate a joint, or propel the body in a desired direction. The pneumatic joint system can remain closed if no new air is available, but stored compressed air cannot be replenished until new air enters the system.

Origins

Luftduphs were designed for a marketing campaign to promote Duphilion as a cheaper and more practical alternative to other existing carbon fiber composites. As the slogan suggested, “Spend on design, save on material.”The campaign featured several functional models to demonstrate the material’s abilities, such as a performance car, a step-through road bicycle, and a Luftduph, which made its debut as a robotic mascot.Despite the models being made for demonstrational purposes only, their spectacular production quality and unique features persuaded some enthusiasts to commission copies of their own. In the case of
Luftduphs, they have been most notably commissioned for use in concerts, festivals, stunt shows, and other types of performance acts, though they have also been used as simple robot companions.

Intelligence

The first model Luftduph was initially equipped with a very simplistic artificial intelligence, as the majority of its action sequences were programmed for demonstrations. However, as there was unexpected demand for commissioned models, an upgraded and more configurable artificial intelligence was developed, and has since been fitted to all new and existing models. The upgraded artificial intelligence is capable of rapid situational decisions, coherent speech, advanced emotional responses, and more.
